Frequently Asked Questions

What is survival swimming?

Survival swimming, inspired by methods from Infant Aquatics®, teaches children how to respond in an unexpected water situation. Depending on age, children learn to float, breathe, and/or swim-float-swim to safety independently.

How are these lessons different from traditional swim lessons?

Not all swim lessons are designed with the same goal. Traditional swim lessons are often centered around comfort and play. Survival swim, inspired by methods from Infant Aquatics®, is designed with a different priority: teaching children how to save themselves in the water. Survival swim lessons build a conditioned, automatic response through repetition and consistency. This means your child doesn’t have to remember what to do—they do it instinctively.

Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death in children under 5, but it is preventable through proper instruction. Traditional lessons often don’t train for real-life scenarios.

How long are lessons and why are they daily?

Lessons are 10 minutes long Monday through Thursday for 4 weeks if an infant and 6 weeks if 18 months+. Frequent, short lessons help build muscle memory and a conditioned response. I understand it is a commitment but it works because of the consistency. This repetition is what allows children to react correctly in a real-life situation without hesitation.

Are lessons really only 10 minutes?

Yes—and that’s intentional. Short, focused lessons are more effective for young children, helping them stay engaged while avoiding fatigue.

Will my child cry?

Most children do cry, especially in the beginning. They are crying for 3 reasons: they are away from their parent/ caregiver, they are with someone they do not know, and they dont know what to do. It is because they are learning something new and it is challenging. I, as an Infant Aquatics®Instructor, am trained to read your child’s cues and ensure lessons are safe and supportive.

What happens after my child completes the program?

To ensure skills stay sharp and confidence continues to grow, I offer ongoing weekly Friday group lessons ($25 limited time offer subject to change) called FUNDAYS that reinforce your child’s abilities and keep their self-rescue response strong and consistent. It also allows them to be in a social environment interacting with other kids while having fun in the pool.

When will my child be fully “drown-proof”?

No child is ever drown-proof. Survival swim lessons are one important layer of protection, but constant supervision and barriers (like pool fences) are always essential.

Can parents watch lessons?

Yes! I encourage parents to observe. Watching your child’s progress helps build trust and understanding of the skills they’re learning. Your enthusiasm and support also shape how your child reacts regarding swim lessons.

Do parents ever get in the pool?

Yes, but it is not required. The parent is able to get in the pool the final week so I, Casey, can show you what to look for while in the pool with your child so they are swimming with the proper form.

Do you have any testimonials?

Yes! On the home page if you scroll down you will see parent testimonials.
